My husband owns a local martial arts academy. Friday night he held a Break-A-Thon at the Mall. He would attempt to break 500 boards in 10 minutes in an effort to raise money (and awareness) for the local Relay for Life. An event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Having many family members and friends affected by cancer, this is a charity very close to our hearts. We've known people to win the battle and, sadly, we've known people to lose.
Not to worry! Most of the boards were recycled. Some were autographed and given away. We ONLY use real boards on special occassions and they are always recycled afterward.
The clock began the countdown at approx. 7:00 pm EST and in just over 8 minutes all 500 boards had been broken! The amount of donations we were able to raise has not been finalized but the crowd at the Mall were inspired and it is our hope that those of you battling this disease will also be inspired....to fight....and to WIN!
The Aftermath:
