The Shadows Are Coming

Just the other evening I was sitting at the table with my family having dinner. It wasn't quite dark and it wasn't quite light. It was the time of day where there's just enough light so that you can still see but just enough dark to make things interesting. They call this time of day twilight.

I was facing the kitchen windows and every now and again I thought I saw something move just beyond a small scattering of trees in the backyard. Every time I looked up, there was nothing there. Nothing but trees, grass and a light wind gently tossing the grass about. I turned my attention back to my family only to see something in my peripheral vision again. Of course, when I looked up...nothing. It got me to thinking of Pip and his little friends. Something tells me it was them. Mischevious little things...

So, I went out to have a look...

I started to look where I'd first seen the small, dark movement out of the corner of my eye.

Nothing here...

What was that? I'm sure I saw something this time!

Where did it go?

Ahhh here.....

I realized then they'd brought me outside to search for them. They wanted to be found.

The Making of a Crown...

I never realized how much work went into making a crown. But, if you're going to make a proper crown, for a proper queen, you've gotta be willing to get your hands dirty....or burned!

I am quite proud of 3 things: 1) I made something beautiful using a very, very hot tool 2) I did not burn the house down or myself (too badly) and 3) I learned something new!

When my eBay group, Artistic Halloween Queens first suggested a crown swap I knew what I wanted to do. What I had to do. I'd gotten the book Pretty Little Things by Sally Jean Alexander well over a year ago. I knew one day I would find the courage or the excuse to learn to solder. Who doesn't want to make pretty little things, especially if they sparkle?!

One of the biggest projects in the book is this crown. I'd never touched a soldering iron before in my whole life. I've just gotten comfortable with the dremel my husband give me years ago. But a proper crown called for drastic measures. And the end result.....

As long as Madame K's happy, I'm happy!

Queen Me!

I've always wanted to be Queen. Who hasn't?! And when I can combine being Queen with my love for Halloween....well, let's just say I never dreamed being a Queen could be that good!

My Halloween eBay group, Artistic Halloween Queens, is having a crown swap. Custom made crowns that are befitting only the finest of Queens. My crown arrived last week and I have taken it everywhere. I just wanted to be sure everyone knows I'm a Queen!

The very talented Tammy, of Light and Shadows Studio created my crown and after receiving this awesome work of art I sure do feel like royalty! You really have to see her work to believe how truly fantastic it is. Visit her at Light and Shadows Studio. You'll be as amazed as I am!

Me as The Queen

My swap partner, God bless her, is still waiting on her crown. She'll be happy to know I completed it today. She was my guinea pig, of sorts, because I decided that during this crown swap challenge I'd try something I'd never done before. Sometimes that's easier said than done. You'll see a couple of sneak peeks below but I can't tell you anymore because I don't want Queen Madame K's surprise to be ruined! I'll show you pics of the completed piece once The Queen has received her crown....stay tuned!
