The Making of a Crown...

I never realized how much work went into making a crown. But, if you're going to make a proper crown, for a proper queen, you've gotta be willing to get your hands dirty....or burned!

I am quite proud of 3 things: 1) I made something beautiful using a very, very hot tool 2) I did not burn the house down or myself (too badly) and 3) I learned something new!

When my eBay group, Artistic Halloween Queens first suggested a crown swap I knew what I wanted to do. What I had to do. I'd gotten the book Pretty Little Things by Sally Jean Alexander well over a year ago. I knew one day I would find the courage or the excuse to learn to solder. Who doesn't want to make pretty little things, especially if they sparkle?!

One of the biggest projects in the book is this crown. I'd never touched a soldering iron before in my whole life. I've just gotten comfortable with the dremel my husband give me years ago. But a proper crown called for drastic measures. And the end result.....

As long as Madame K's happy, I'm happy!

This Queen has a way with clay and she makes about the best darn lookin Queen I've ever seen!

  1. You are unbelievable. I have the book and the tools and the flux and the stuff but I am solder impaired. It is not easy. Hot Hot Hot and Clean Clean Clean is supposed to be some kind of soldering mantra but it NEVER worked for me.

Lucky Madame K. Swap ya some spanakopita for a crown?

  3. Your crown turned out beautifully! Wowzwea, you are so amazing with all that you do. BTW, burning the house down sounds exactly like what I would do. Anything power driven or electrical should be kept outta my hands.

  4. jami,
Your crown is perfect and if you hadn't told me I wouldn't know it was one from the artist that wrote the book. I got the iron/book for Christmas but I still have to purchase the rest of the supplies. I might just give it a try.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

  8. Hi Jamie! That is one *F*A*B*U*L*O*U*S* crown! Madame K looks so happy, and I know why! I didn't get a chance to participate in the crown swap, but I know I would have loved to receive a regal crown like this. Great job! I've never tried soldering. Looks like so much fun!

Thank so much for coming to visit! I really appreciate your sweet comment! Have a wonderful week!
