Child's Artwork Gallery Wall

I've been meaning to do this forever. I have saved every single piece of artwork my, almost, 8 year old has done since before preschool. There isn't a wall in the whole house that could hold it all at this point. It has gotten so out of hand I had no idea where to start.

He recently drew a collection of ninjas and a bad guy. That, coupled with my very first trip to an IKEA store, more on that monumental occasion later, sparked an idea. What better place to start than with the here and now. I vowed to get started as soon as I got home. My attic can only hold so much art and I'm too sentimental to throw any of it away.

I got four sets of these inexpensive, 3.99 for a set of 2, NYTTJA picture frames. I don't know about you, but I thought the NYTTJA frames just screamed NINJA pictures.

I used the clear plexiglass to trace around the picture. Then cut it out.

I placed each one in a frame and then laid them out on the floor until I had the pattern I wanted.

I put them on a wall in the hall just outside his bedroom using 3M Command Adhesive Strips. They make it super easy to rearrange or remove later. Plus, I like the look of the frames flush to the wall.

I feel like such a better Momma now!

What WAS on my workdesk Wednesday

Ok. So I know it's not Wednesday but I was working on Wednesday and it was not at the computer.

The four of you who actually read this blog might remember that a couple of Wednesdays ago there was wood on my workdesk. Er. My floor. I had planned on doing a tree on the nursery wall but after trolling around some of my favorite home-y blogs, I went with a giraffe silhouette instead.

Speaking of Silhouette, I still have not used mine. The machine. Not the giraffe.

But I did finally complete this project. Here is Mr. Giraffe in all his glory. Obviously I cheated and used a projector. I am told that this is technically not cheating and that the pros do it all the time. Works for me. It's a time saver!

He needed a few more coats of paint and he's all done. I actually think I might paint him once more for good measure. I used a brush for the first couple of coats and I think I'd have been better off if I'd used a mini roller for that second coat.

The pain in the #$% part of being me is that once I'm done with something like this it makes me want to do something else. And that makes me want to do something else. It's a vicious cycle. I mean, there's never actually a 'I'm finished' moment and while it's exhausting, I wouldn't have it any other way.

***EDIT: YOU CAN DO THIS TOO! Here's the giraffe silhouette I used below. Click on it to bring it up and then print it out or right click and save it to your usb drive. Take it to your local office supply store and have them print it on a transparency. You can rent an overhead projector from most office supply stores or maybe even your local library. Maybe you have a friend at a local school that'll hook you up!***

Oh Schmidt!

My One World One Heart prize from my BFF Amy arrived today.

I couldn't wait to tear into the package and pull out my Schmidt.

After I tore through what seemed like 3 rolls of packing tape, I was finally there! The mother load. No. Wait. Another package. Okay so I tear again and....

Ahhhh Schmidt!

I can't paint. People who can amaze me. It's the shading. I just can't do it.

I love him. He's the Schmidt.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW)

Well at first I was just copying my friend Amy because it seemed like a fun thing to do. Show you all the crap on my workdesk. But then the more I thought about it, the more I liked it and this is why...

You know those fancy magazines with photos of where "women like you" create. Only you look at those pictures and realize where you create looks nothing like that. At all.

Well these aren't those kinds of pictures. And I like that. I like that a lot.

You can play too, if you want to show us your messy workspace. If your workspace is not messy, please don't show us. Just click here

Bling Bling - And a OWOH Prize

(These were made by my friend Laura and gifted to me. Her Etsy shop is coming soon!)

I learned something new over the weekend with my girls. First, I learned that I really, really love this color. I already kinda knew that, just look at my blog, but I've come to realize that I'm drawn to it. In Everything.

Second, I learned to make jewelry. I'm using learned in it's loosest sense here. It's not that I didn't have a good teacher, it's just that I'm going to need lots of practice. Lots.

The hardest part, which blew my mind, was putting together the beads. I don't mean the actual execution. I mean the part where you go, 'oh this is pretty. i think i'll put this with this and that with that and this'll go here and that'll go there'. Not as easy as one might think. I mean, I'm a girl. I like jewelry. I like pretty, shinny things. How hard could it be, right? Deceptively.

I made the bracelet, which I was darn proud of! Just look at those colors. I planned to do it all in turquoise but then I saw those crackly beads and they just spoke to me. Something very vintagey about those little do dads. But I could NOT get it together for the earrings. I mean, I just made the bracelet. Now all I gotta do is pick out some pretty little matching beads, right?

It was a disaster. Not because I couldn't get down that little bend/bend/wrap technique for the tops of the earrings (I mean, I couldn't. I let my friend do that. But that's not what I'm talking about here. Pay attention), but because every bead I picked out was too big, didn't "compliment" the other shapes I put them with. Blah, blah, blah. So my friend executes the simple technique of going the 'simple is sometimes best' route and throwing three little turquoise beads together making the perfect little set of earrings. Yes, that made me feel like quite the winner. But then I just don't do simple well. I like to keep things complicated. You know, just for the fun of it.

I figure my lesson in jewelry making couldn't have been more perfectly timed since this little beaut arrived in the mail this week. A lampwork heart bead from Karen Klomparens over at Fire-n-sand Glass. I really like the idea of creating shapes for jewelry from glass with a blowtorch. That's just my kind of complicated. It's also the kind of thing that would get my house burned to the ground so I'm just going to see about making something with the one Karen sent me.

Maybe I'll just keep it simple. You know, like leave it on the little ribbon it came with. Oh, come on. You know that's never going to happen!

New Baby + Old Friends + Great Art =
1 Really Good Weekend

You know those kinds of friends that no matter how long it's been since you've seen them you just pick right up where you left off. Like it was only yesterday instead of years. I have those kinds of friends. And I love them.

My "Girl's Weekend" began in a way that I was not expecting. At all. Our niece, who was due to arrive St. Patrick's Day, decided she'd rather be here early enough to properly enjoy that party and arrived almost exactly a month early. She's my newest "girl".

Girl's Weekend officially kicked off at City Market in Downtown Savannah at the A.T. Hun Gallery where one of my girls has her mosaics featured.

They are so good, it borders on ridiculous.

Laura of Motley Lane Mosaics

There's just nothing like good friends. They make you laugh. Even when you don't feel like it. And then, before you know it, you feel like it.

Then they make you laugh some more.

And though you still think of them as your high school friends, you see them with your kids and you realize things have changed. But not how much you love them.

One World One Heart 2011

Welcome OWOH 2011! The first time I participated I had no idea what to expect. The one thing I didn't expect was finding lifelong friends in the blogosphere but that's exactly what happened. I'm very excited about doing it again. {Click on the OWOH banner for more info.}

I'm a folk artist from Georgia in the southern part of the United States. I love music, art, photography, baking, babies, animals, animal babies, the great outdoors, gardening, the smell of cucumbers, nutella, twix and oreos. They call me a wayward spirit because I get restless if I stay anywhere for too long. My heart does not belong to any one place. I'd love to travel the world with a backpack (full of nutella, twix and oreos) on a gypsy caravan. If you'd like to know a little more about me, you'll find an About Me tab up there at the top of the page.

I started selling my artwork online just after my first child was born in 2003 as a way to express my creativity and to support my desire to be a stay at home mom (one of the toughest jobs in the world, by the way!). I love what I do. Not only because I get to stay at home and be creative but also because I've met some of the greatest people in the world. I can actually say I have friends from all over the globe. How cool is that!

I'm so very glad you've come to visit Peach Street. I hope you'll leave a comment and tell me a bit about yourself. I can't wait to "meet" you. Oh! And if you do, leave a comment that is, you could win one of my folk art pieces. Be sure to leave me a link to your blog in case you're the winner and so I can come and visit.

**winner will be announced Feb. 17th. Open to all active bloggers WORLDWIDE.**
